Objective: Identifying adults' physical activity patterns across multiple life domains could inform the design of interventions and policies. Design: Cluster analysis was conducted with adults in two U.S. regions (Baltimore/Washington, DC, n = 702; Seattle, WA [King County], n = 987) to identify different physical activity patterns based on adults' reported physical activity across four life domains: leisure, occupation, transport, and home. Objectively measured physical activity, and psychosocial and built (physical) environment characteristics of activity patterns were examined. Main Outcome Measures: Accelerometer-measured activity, reported domain-specific activity, psychosocial characteristics, built environment, body mass index. Results: Three clusters replicated (κ = .90–.93) across both regions: Low Activity, Active Leisure, and Active Job. The Low Activity and Active Leisure adults were demographically similar, but Active Leisure adults had the highest psychosocial and built environment support for activity, highest accelerometer-measured activity, and lowest body mass index. Compared to the other clusters, the Active Job cluster had lower socioeconomic status and intermediate accelerometer-measured activity. Conclusion: Adults can be clustered into groups based on their patterns of accumulating physical activity across life domains. Differences in psychosocial and built environment support between the identified clusters suggest that tailored interventions for different subgroups may be beneficial. The stir zone (SZ) temperature cycle was measured during the friction stir processing (FSP) of NiAl bronze plates. The FSP was conducted using a tool design with a smooth concave shoulder and a 12.7-mm step-spiral pin. Temperature sensing was accomplished using sheathed thermocouples embedded in the tool path within the plates, while simultaneous optical pyrometry measurements of surface temperatures were also obtained. Peak SZ temperatures were 990 °C to 1015 °C (0.90 to 0.97 T Melt) and were not affected by preheating to 400 °C, although the dwell time above 900 °C was increased by the preheating. Thermocouple data suggested little variation in peak temperature across the SZ, although thermocouples initially located on the advancing sides and at the centerlines of the tool traverses were displaced to the retreating sides, precluding direct assessment of the temperature variation across the SZ. Microstructure-based estimates of local peak SZ temperatures have been made on these and on other similarly processed materials. Altogether, the peak-temperature determinations from these different measurement techniques are in close agreement.  相似文献

We define a cyclostationary signature as a feature which may be intentionally embedded in a digital communications signal, detected through cyclostationary analysis and used as a unique identifier. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how cyclostationary signatures can be exploited to overcome a number of the challenges associated with network coordination in emerging cognitive radio applications and spectrum sharing regimes. In particular we show their uses for signal detection, network identification and rendezvous and discuss these in the context of dynamic spectrum access. We present a theoretical discussion followed by application-oriented examples of the cyclostationary signatures used in practical cognitive radio and dynamic spectrum usage scenarios. We focus on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based systems and present an analysis of a transceiver implementation employing these techniques developed on a cognitive radio test platform.  相似文献

Omega-3 oil from fish can be stabilised against oxidation using a variety of microencapsulation technologies. Complex coacervation has been used and found to be commercially useful for fortifying foods and beverages with long-chain omega-3 containing oils. Here we report a comparative human bioavailability study of microencapsulated omega-3 fish oil and standard fish-oil soft-gel capsules. Phospholipid levels of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids increased equivalently in both subjects groups. Also, triacylglycerol levels were reduced similarly in both groups. These results indicate that omega-3 fatty acids have equivalent bioavailability when delivered as microencapsulated complex coacervates or as soft-gel capsules.  相似文献

Concerns about the potential allergenicity of collagen proteins remaining after beverage fining have necessitated development of methods to detect collagen in beer at very low concentrations. We have developed a semi‐quantitative SDS‐PAGE/densitometer method suitable for use in brewer's laboratories, for detection of residual native collagen at levels as low as 0.03 ppm (depending on the beer). The method is based on the fibril‐forming properties of collagen molecules at elevated ionic strength. It will not detect denatured collagens so cannot be used on pasteurised beers. For a quantitative reference that compensates for significant differences in beer composition, and the different fining agents, a known amount of the acid‐soluble fraction of the fining agent is added to the test beer to set limits of detection for the test. Densitometer results from the SDS‐PAGE gels can vary with sample volume, depending on background interference but this can be reduced by careful selection of gel loading volumes. Fining out of the added collagen occurs in some beers, so less collagen is detected in the reference samples than expected. However, as long as densitometer readings for the sample are below those of the spiked reference, then collagen levels can be declared with confidence as being less than those of the reference.  相似文献

Highly unsaturated fatty acids derived from fish or algal oils, particularly EPA and DHA, are in high demand as healthy food ingredients in fortified foods. Due to their oxidative instability most food products incorporate stabilized microencapsulated EPA and DHA oils to avoid negative sensory impact associated with oxidation of these fatty acids. Complex coacervation has been particularly successful in stabilizing fish oil and providing an ingredient with a sensory shelf‐life consistent with that of the food product. Overcoming the technical challenges associated with the instability of these oils will help drive growth of the omega‐3 fortified healthy food ingredient market.  相似文献

As a part of the scheduled expansion of the Alcator C-Mod lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) system from 12 to 16 klystrons to accommodate installation of a second LH antenna, the active control system (ACS) is being redesigned to accommodate the additional klystrons. Digitizers and output modules will be cPCI modules provided by D-tAcq Solutions. The real-time application will run on a standard PC server running Linux. Initially, the new ACS system will be designed to control 8 klystrons on the second LH antenna and the existing ACS will control the remaining 8 klystrons on the existing LH antenna. Experience gained operating the existing LHCD system has given us insight into the design of a more robust, compact, efficient and simple system for the new ACS. The design upgrade will be patterned on the digital plasma control system (DPCS [1]) in use on C-Mod.  相似文献

The allure of an environmentally benign, abundant, and cost-effective energy source has led an increasing number of industrialized countries to back public financing of renewable energies. Germany’s experience with renewable energy promotion is often cited as a model to be replicated elsewhere, being based on a combination of far-reaching energy and environmental laws that stretch back nearly two decades. This paper critically reviews the centerpiece of this effort, the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), focusing on its costs and the associated implications for job creation and climate protection. We argue that German renewable energy policy, and in particular the adopted feed-in tariff scheme, has failed to harness the market incentives needed to ensure a viable and cost-effective introduction of renewable energies into the country’s energy portfolio. To the contrary, the government’s support mechanisms have in many respects subverted these incentives, resulting in massive expenditures that show little long-term promise for stimulating the economy, protecting the environment, or increasing energy security.  相似文献
